jbrenner made a suggestion of possibly an island near Australia. I looked at a couple of other locales for a few more choices. Here they are:

Tahiti group. Nice size, price unknown at this time. Looks pretty nice and completely undeveloped. Only drawback is leasehold status. Wonder if freehold could be negotiated?

Here's an Aussie one. Couldn't find too many pix but looks interesting and the price is not forbidding.

Another in the Fiji group. A hundred times smaller and costing a fourth of the first one. Less b4tb IMO

Here is one in the Fiji group. A bit high but, Holy Crap!!, 10,000 acres. Lots of room for development. Some spectacular photos in this one.

Let me see if they will reply to an inquiry on the price. I will ask in the name of the Atlantis Planning Committee. Let me know soonest if that is okay.

I think that the cost per acre is a big determinant. Almost everyone can afford a couple acres at that price. The remainder can be utilized for buildout, food production and small industry for export. Ten thousand acres of land in a temperate environment? Hoo boy, what an opportunity.

Certainly looks to be a caldera. Being a young? island, I would say the vulcanism could be like the Yellowstone caldera. It's coming but we may not see it in our lifetimes. Unless it's a Krakatoa or a Mount St Helen, we should have ample warning. Also, we may be able to use geothermal for power production.

Given the remoteness of any location that we might choose, I think we would need to allow at least a couple and probably three years to get to the point where we would have a "base camp" or resort from which to build. Many of the people who might consider Atlantis are seniors already.

I think I like this one a little better than the volcano, but the up front cost is pretty high. We would have to get a big commitment.

None of those earthquakes are particularly strong, but is it a calderra? How far would our land be from the magma path? Even so, it would probably stink from the fumes.

I just am not a fan of being so close to a South American country, esp so close offshore. Too many things can go bad too quickly for my peace of mind.

Excellent points. But, these improvements will also add to the purchase price, possibly taking it out of range, though I don't see why it would if we would be willing to spend more on undeveloped land.

That's ten thousand acres. (10,000) A LOT of land for the money. It is also a peninsula so has a land bridge.

Let me do some research on the vulcanism in the area, esp the island. Of all the choices, this one is my favorite from an aesthetic point of view and pretty practical as well.

Chile has the highest bond rating in South America. Over the past 30 years or so, this country has been far wiser fiscally than most.

Weather is always fine with a constant temperature of 25C.

    Business friendly.

The youngest (volcanic) mountain in the chain. How active is the volcano?
