The article is pretty sparse. Can anyone back up Musk's contention because I'm more than a little skeptical - unless all they did was just pirate one of nVidia's chips and call it their own...
It would definitely be interesting to know what kind of slush fund is still available to Musk given the heavy expenses at Tesla and also Space X. I seriously doubt that it amounts to a billion dollars (that's a lot of money no matter who you're talking about), but I would love to know for sure.
"My argument was simply that if he want to get into the chip business he would cost be damned."
It's actually more about who he can con out of the money than anything. He's not the government (fortunately).
I agree the Tesla Motors is not making $$ but and I my be mistaken here, there is a rather large sluch fund of cask and drawing rights available . Not sure that cost would drive Musk. Hasn't seemed to in the past. I haven't seen the chip, no one has which is a troubling point. My argument was simply that if he want to get into the chip business he would cost be damned.
You'll forgive me, but none of that answers my question: how is Musk claiming that he has a better chip than nVidia when they've never built a chip before? A microchip fab costs nearly a billion dollars to get up and running (I live next door to a chip fab) and Tesla motors isn't exactly turning a profit.
I understand the skepticism but recall several things 1. Space X 2. Musk didn't do it, his engineers did 3. If he chip is a clone, it will be found and Musk will belong to nVidia. He may be crazy but he is not stupid.
Maybe the Tesla will be pulling a trailer containing a freezer unit and the computer. I don't believe anything Musk says. When he pays back the US taxpayers for the billions he looted and stops lying, then perhaps I can take him seriously.

One chip to rule them all, one chip to find them, One chip to transport them all and in the darkness bind them.
For some of them the SEC sued him.
He can't be sued for this one.
It is amazing how a swindler is able to dominate the news. The WSJ is full of Musk created events and quotes.
