If killing cattle for meat were banned, the vast majority of the cattle alive today simply would not exist. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they soon became endangered.
Look at African elephants. Most countries' laws "protect" them, and as a predictable result, the only populations doing well are in the few countries that have made them private property and allow them to be raised for slaughter. In the countries that "protect" them they get poached to death -- they're so valuable that it can't be stopped.
What might it take? Repeatedly interrupt them to ask how they MEASURE "public interest" or "public welfare" or whatever term they launch into the conversation.
And then call them on it LOUDLY when they weasel-word away from actually defining the terms or their alleged 'measurements.'
I read this hours ago and have been thinking of the right response. This may not be the right response but it is what I have!!! They want us to eat less meat so that means that there will be more cows farting to give us more gasses to promote climate change so does that mean that we need to kill all of the cows without eating them??? Anything larger than a squirrel must be exterminated!!! Including humans!!! They are idiots!!!
Ah yes, here goes the "Bozo Brigade" again. A bunch of fools that think they know more than they do. And they definitely think they know what is best for everyone.
Actually, they've been making that illegal in some states. Like here in New Jersey (and I was totally unaware there was a distilling industry in New Jersey, can't seem to find anything produced in the state) (not much of a cattle industry either, but the law applies to other livestock).
Grasslands are a significant carbon sink. Grazing herds of cattle and/or bison help maintain and fertilize the grasslands. Grazing herd animals are essential to maintaining the environment. Eat more beef!
Chili. No! Not chili! I love chili. I love the hot kind, the mild kind, any kind. I love chili dogs. I love chili hamburgers. Kari, don't do this to me. I'll get chili lovers across the USA to rebel. I'll get a ten million person rebellion going. I was bred on beef. I lived through WW2 as a kid when beef was rationed and it was no picnic (pun intended.) I'm warning you, mama don't take my beef away!
They base the concept of "more vegetable based diets"... well most vegetarians I know do not actually eat that many vegetables. A good friend of mine didn't eat onions, peppers, tomatoes, and I had to suffer through an olive pizza with her. I don't like a black with olives pizza! Most of the vegetarians I have known have been basically junk food junkies, with the occasional vegetables.
I've seen this move from various agencies, pushing more vegetarian diets, and trying to "save the cow" or pig or whatever their animal of the week is! I think this is a more official push for it? Their stupid food pyramid shoves bread and grains down people's throats more than vegetables! Most people eat more grains than vegetables. Meat is good for you. Most people don't get enough healthy fats and protein. And Everybody is different and requires different types of diets. So pushing this is more of the whole agenda and move away from non-vegetarian diets. (at least that's my opinion).
That might look like they are being fueled from the tank. But, still not a bad idea. Speaking of still, from my son's new business, the corn mash after it's distilled into liquor goes back to the cattle for feed. I never knew that it was recycled like that. https://www.facebook.com/2LoonsDistiller...
I agree with wiggys: the likely - and proper - response to this is to eat more beef. So, do your patriotic duty, Gulchers, and put the chili on to simmer.

Nah, nobody's gonna do that...
So does that mean they are going to outlaw beans too?
I can see it now! They are going to come to my house and rip all my bean plants out of my garden. LOL
Hell, I may as well be making moonshine!!!

Wait...where's Ma Chalmers when you need her?
So, what does it take to out these political organizations?
gravy, and who knows what else....... -- j
