"A Texas teenager has turned his father in to the FBI for taking part in the Capitol Hill riot, and pocketed tens of thousands of dollars from liberal admirers in the process.
When Jackson Reffitt’s father returned to the family home in Wylie, Texas, after the pro-Trump riot on Capitol Hill earlier this month, Jackson claimed that he warned his son to keep his mouth shut. “If you turn me in, you’re a traitor,” he reportedly said. “And you know what happens to traitors. Traitors get shot.”

However, Jackson had already reported the 48-year-old Guy Reffitt to the FBI, telling agents he thought his father was planning “something big” during the certification of election results at the capitol, per a New York Times article on Sunday. After the riot, Reffitt was identified in video footage from the Capitol, tracked down in Texas, and arrested, according to a sworn affidavit by an FBI agent.

Guy Reffitt was charged with obstruction of justice and of knowingly entering a restricted building, though he claims he never actually entered the Capitol. Jackson Reffitt left his family home, and has since become something of a celebrity.

Turning in his father landed Reffitt interviews with CNN, Fox and the New York Times, with the CNN interview the first his family heard about his contact with the FBI. “My mom and my sisters are absolutely ruined about the news from what I did,” Reffitt tweeted on Saturday.

Apparently encouraged by his supporters, Reffitt set up a crowdfunding campaign, and after raising the donation limit several times has netted just under $87,000 in less than three days. This amount has paid for his university tuition, repaired his car, and purchased his dental insurance, Reffitt wrote on GoFundMe.

Praise has poured in from liberals, who applauded Reffitt’s “bravery” in snitching on his own father."

    Yep, that's why I don't talk politics with them....they don't seem to understand so much. Now if they ASK me, I will answer them, but even then I can see it goes over their heads. (Editing to add: they can get the details of what happened but the overall concept seems to be lost. And I'm really not all that good at explaining it because some things you just can't summarize in 30 seconds or less!)

    One thing I've noticed they have in common is a very limited knowledge of history, even recent history of the 20th century. Without that knowledge base they have no point of reference in gauging current events. For example, they can be quick in calling someone a Nazi or Hitler, but are actually clueless as to what either of those actually represent and, therefore, have no real idea if the association they're invoking is even valid.

    This phenomenon is permeating the whole country of the generations coming up behind us. Even my own generation has its share of ignorant people (see Congress), but nothing compared to the ones coming up and ruling the roost today (see younger Congress and other political posts). I'm saddened by how stupid these people are, even my own kids. I thought I brought them up better than that. They all do have a strong work ethic they say they got from me and none of them are lazy, but they didn't get their politics from me or my wife.

    The traitor son is clearly a Progressive-Socialist. They tend not to have children until they're much older, so in 15 years his xon/xaughter will be, what, three?

    Even so, he's going to have to move to some urban shithole, lest that hunting accident git-him[sic].

    I agree. I wrote the title so there would be no room for doubt in anyone's mind about it even if they weren't aware of the history. ;^)

    Nazism was and is always a left ideology, remember NSDAP, Nationalsozialistische Deutsche ArbeiterPartei. Much the same as other left parties, except for its openly racist ideas.

    When I was a kid in the '60's I heard that a Russian kid had finked on his parents for not toeing the Soviet party line. The kid was rewarded and the parents went to the gulag. I thought at the time that this was the worst, most damning thing I had ever heard about the Soviets; that the State mattered more to them than the Family. When I was in college, some kid in California ratted out his parents for smoking pot, and the same thing happened. Kid was rewarded, parents went to the slammer. Well, folks, it's here. And don't believe for a second that what they're teaching your kids in government 'public' schools won't have the same result. We Libertarians and Conservatives are now the bad guys that don't toe the party line. Teach your children well, or you will suffer the same fate.

    Sad. It'll be even sadder when the kid is found in the woods with an errant hunting round through this head. But the family would mourn, bury their son, and move on. Forty years from now the father will receive a visitor on his deathbed and hear an apology...

    Two thoughts on that....ExLax brownies for hubby are my standard "threat" when things get tense around here, hahahahah! (Years ago I read where a woman actually did go to prison for trying to kill her husband with ....ExLax brownies.)

    Also, this reminds me of a time at the Texas State Fair - over 50 years ago - when an exhibit/reward of some sort wanted me to provide them with the name of someone who was hard of hearing. First name that popped into my mind was my Mother! You can imagine my surprise when a few weeks later this guy shows up at the door to sell hearing aids! I had a time living that one down!

    But seriously, this kid did a despicable thing...and just in line with what they want kids to do.

    I hate to admit it, but I agree. I no longer discuss my political views with my children. Long story, but I just shake my head in disbelief. My wife and I are together, but neither of us knows what happened to the kids (our "kids" are in their mid to late 40s so a lot has changed since they left the nest).

    I followed a path much like yours, but a few years behind. Didn't understand how to square my opinion that being gay is ok, smoking pot is ok, and being responsible for one's own actions is required, and taking away guns is wrong. Rs/Ds, right/left, didn't work. Then I found Libertarians...ahhhhhh. Now I get it. I like freedom!

    I didn't really know Ayn Rand. Thought the movies were better done than the book. Too bad they couldn't do them in one shot with the same cast.

    Me old dino remembers when liberals were for tolerance and free speech. Me dino was actually one of those during the Sixties.
    Later Reagan flipped me completely after I had enough of inept Jimmy Carter flipping me part way. Never heard of Ayn Rand until the AS DVDs came out.

    So a kid gets $87K for turning in his father for protesting! That will encourage more of the same behavior! Should a reward be offered for the summer of love riots to turn in their offending family members? Maybe a few more arrests would be made for that mayhem.

    Well, let's see if his extended media family supports him like his father would have. Hopefully the father and family has the strength of will to cut the kid loose.
