Gulcher Flags?

So is anybody else in the Gulch a flag-loving nerd like myself? I thought I would try my hand at a flag.

I based it on the original Sons of Liberty flag from the 1760's. The flag had nine vertical stripes - 5 red and 4 white. Ultimately it was turned to horizontal and eventually (by adding 4 stripes) it became the basis for the Navy ensign and the US flag.

The quote that I added speaks for itself. If you don't recognize it, you might have wandered up the wrong Gulch. LOL

I love this idea, I agree too that adding the next line really adds something to it. Great ideas. I plan to buy both flags, this one and the pirate flag. I love all things pirate, my kids do too. We are working on building a jungle gym for them that strongly resembles a pirate ship. She won't be sea worthy, but i think the boys will love my design. Anyone know where to get a 5 ft wooden mermaid, if not, guess I'm gonna be whittling. Great post, I will wave my flags proudly, let me know if anyone comes up with a dollar sign flag, or if I should give it some thought and maybe lend my creativity to this venture. I would love to assist in spreading these ideals.

Ok. So I modified the flag to add "And My Love Of It" per the suggestion below. I've now created a little store on cafepress that has some items with this design as well as some with my "you give peace a chance" design found elsewhere in the gulch. You can find them at the link below. Please be aware that I have not received any of them yet. But I have ordered cafepress items before and they should look just like the picture they show you. It's pretty much what you see is what you get.

    Hello xthinker88,

I like flags too ... and heraldry. To me, they are much more appealing art form than what last and this century abstract artists produce.

May I suggest that you make it two lines of text and add "...and my love of it." I think that this additional part adds disproportionally strong meaning and depth to the whole statement.

    Just a thought.

Why would you think and state "we're overturning the very concept of the nation state"?

That is 'Globalist, One-World, Socialist' nonsense.

Right on! I don't know if most people would put 2 and 2 together when they saw that flag, but now that you've explained it I really like the symbolism. After all, isn't a Gulch the meeting place of like-minded lovers of liberty?

The Green Dragon Tavern was the meeting place of The Sons of Liberty. The original building was razed in approx. 1850 but rebuilt as it was for the most party. An expensive Green Dragon Tavern including lots of neat features has been constructed near San Diego. Take a look http://www.greendragontavernca.com/Home

Lol OK I admit I am prejudiced in my appreciation for Latin due to my study of languages. Now this brings up a question on how these matters will be decided in the Gulch..

I'm getting a quote to see how much it would cost to have this made as an actual flag as well.

I'm attending the Porcupine Festival in June in NH. Maybe this will be flying at my own campsite. I'll be my own liberty-loving micronation. LOL.

Then again, maybe I'll have several made and claim others' campsites as part of my nation.

Although placing this flag to claim someone else's land runs kind of contrary to the oath that it references.

In Latin? - nothing like a dead language of a dead Empire to say Liberty. LOL ;)

I like the black and gold too. Not least because they are the colors of my alma mater.

I wanted to use something related to the American Revolution though. And we don't see the original Sons of Liberty flag much in use these days. The idea of using the oath came from a series of flags from the Revolution that have the phrase "An Appeal To Heaven". I like the oath better.

I like the gold sign of the dollar on a black background, kind of like the gulch logo in the upper left corner. I like your inclusion of the oath though, perhaps in Latin? "Ut adiurem te per vitam meam ego"?

I like the flag. I think a liberty-based micronation should either not have a flag or it should be somehow completely different to signify this is not just a new nation but we're overturning the very concept of the nation state. OTOH, it would probably end up with a flag, and I like the one you made.
