The FCC sees their authority regarding the Internet as a result of the Internet having been developed via "government-funded" R&D, particularly through DARPA. DrZarkov99 probably can add something valuable here.

As I understand, the FCC got its start because broadcast radio, and then broadcast tv were reliant upon limited frequency bandwidths. Under what authority do they take upon themselves to regulate the internet? If I don't like Cox Communications' transmission policies... I can run my own lines.

We seriously need an alternative to the internet.

Net neutrality is the means by which Obama plans to regulate not only the Internet, but talk radio, too. Until this story came up, I had forgotten about Van Jones.

The absorption vs. adsorption confusion is the most common confusion amongst chemical engineering students. Thanks for dealing with one of my pet peeves.

This whole issue is likely to be meaningless as bandwidth expands. This is clearly an anti-property rights move on the part of the FCC. Their real goal is to create a fairness doctrine which will allow the FCC to regulate the internet. THAT will be the true horror for internet users.
btw j-changed "absorption" to "adsorption." thanks.
