I view this situation in the long historical context and I believe they (Islam) are more of a danger to the rest of the world than either Nazi or Japanese nationalism ever was -- not least because they've always taught their followers that "peace" means "after we own the world" (a definition Lenin copied from them). It doesn't especially matter if we leave them alone or not -- when they decide they're ready, they'll go on jihad again. I'm determined that once that happens, and it will, we're prepared to fight a full world war, after which we've got to occupy their countries and put a total, permanent end to their belief system and culture the way we did Nazism. If we're not willing to do that, then in the long run, they win. There is no other way the "permanent cold war" with them can end.

But maybe I'm wrong, so I'd certainly wait for them to strike first. (Although at some point we've got to stop believing that terrorists really are acting independently, even when countries like Saudi Arabia go on funding the schools that radicalize them, and start treating their attacks as acts of war by their sponsors.)

More likely the left just believes Islamists will help them cause western countries to collapse, after which they'll be able to pick up the pieces. They are deluding themselves. Islam has been waging this "cold war" for 1400 years. The only reason it ever worked for Marxists is that a desperate German leadership helped them pull it off during WW1, and then they conned FDR into giving them half of Europe at Yalta.

Meanwhile Soros is just a loose cannon, so feckless that he's caused revolutions in countries on both sides. If he ever figures out what he's doing, something will need to be done about him. I just hope Trump, or his replacement, figures it out before Soros does.

If you study socialism from socialist sources, you will see that, while, as noted, those who apologize for "the Arab cause" are illiberal, they are not Marxists. Marxism considers nationalism to be an artificial divide making workers of the world enemies of each other instead of their common enemy, the capitalist class. Moreover, as materialists, Marxists are opposed to all religions.

You seem not to have studied socialism from socialist sources. Just as Objectivists, libertarians, and conservatives have consequential differences, so, too, is the political left not of one mindset. You noted that with "illiberal." Many on the right consider themselves the true and proper inheritors of 19th century liberalism. Milton Friedman and F. A. Hayek were just two exemplars. Post-modernist collectivists on the left often decry "neo-liberalism and globalism." But, then, so do many on the right.

As a development from the Enlightenment modern socialism, especially Marxism, argues well against Islamic fundamentalism in particular, and even Islam in general. Marxism is materialist. Marxists are opposed to mysticism, whether Buddhist, Christian, Muslim, or Wiccan, or whatever else.

More deeply, socialism (especially Marxism) is an economic philosophy: the Sharia (and traditional Christian and Jewish) modes of commerce are antithetical to socialism. You could do business in the ISIL Caliphate a lot easier than you could in the old USSR or even Norway today.

The USSR put the first woman in space. Women in the USSR were doctors, engineers, even KGB lawyers with general officer rank.

For all of those reasons and many others you would be challenged to find many on the left who support ISIS or excuse it.
