HMOs started in the Upper Midwest, so many people here expect as a fact of life that their employer takes care of the premiums for a plan that pays for most everything with no deductibles. Many providers are the same way. On multiple occasions I've had providers suggest something isn't a good option because it would cost $100. We have to explain we never hit our deductible, and $100 is in the noise.

So you are absolutely right, but in some markets you have to work for it. In my area it's easier by far to get pricing on a new furnace or a car repair than a medical procedure. You can get pricing. You just have to keep asking until you get someone with a brain. I frequently get, "I don't know the cost, but you may possibly have a co-pay, depending on your insurance." There's a lot of cluelessness.

We'll never get rid of Obamacare. It's here for good. Somebody might "lose their coverage..", you know.

You left out tax reform in your post of changes needed. A simplier tax system, maybe a flat tax or the FairTax. Either system would do. Everybody gets to pay, not just the working schlub who can't afford high priced accountants and such.

I'm with you term. Shut down all the departments having actions not specifically mentioned in the original constitution and Bill of Rights. On of my friends is eligible for medicare (about 68 at present) and is paying $5,000 a month for a health policy outside Obamacare. His money is going for prenatal care that his responsible generation never needed. How did we ever manage to survive and be healthy without all that statist meddling?

The money you put in was worth way more than the money you get from SS today. This site says that what you could buy with $12.49 in 1960 now requires $100.00. Lets see if we take 100/12.49 = 8. So your SS check should be eight times what it is to keep up with with the Fed/Govt. inflation.

I get medicare and SS, and the fact of it is that the money I put in was spent long ago on government projects. As a result, the payments I get now are courtesy of people currently paying into the ponzi scheme called SS and medicare. I would give it up gladly if the whole system were closed down, but most older people have made themselves dependent on the government and would vote to keep the swamp filled.

There is no hope that the ACA will be repealed. When those who govern say they will repeal and replace it they are merely stating we will have the same system of rules with a different name.
