    It hasn't been established yet whether the girls had fired first. If they had, his response was appropriate. If not, then blame the judge, not the law.

    The only thing "idiotic" about Stand Your Ground laws is that we need them to be able to exercise what should be considered a right. The right to go peaceably about your business without having to give way to bullies, thugs and criminals.
