Imagine a cloning of Barack Hussein Obama. Thirty-five years or so from now that the Dems could have his look-alike with the identical genes run as, say, Barry Mandolin. After all, he wouldn't be the same person. Just the clone but with a separate social security number. Wouldn't that be just peachy?

That could happen. But I don't think it would be caused by either cloning or genetics. Ayn Rand was what she was because she chose to apply her mind, and that is how she achieved her values. Someone equally brilliant who did not so choose to apply her mind could even be a monster.

Maybe, but there could well be some teenager in Pyongyang, brilliant writing talent and fed up with Nth Korean communism, about to execute a master escape plan and catch a ride out in the bilge of a ship to China, and then to Hong Kong, and then to San Francisco...

There will never be another Ayn Rand. Man has free will, regardless of genetics. (Same would apply, to a less noticeable degree, to Franklin, Bach, Ford,
    etc.)

You caused me dino to think of a (bit too late) quote by fictional character Ian Malcolm in Jurassic Park~
"Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."

I suppose it could be done; but it is not a good idea biologically. What puts "new blood" in a strain is sexual reproduction. If the same protoplasm is cloned (repeated) generation after generation, it is likely to wear out, and go bad in some way, such as producing birth defects, or causing more susceptibility to disease.

This is not really a superhero movie. It is a movie about people who time is over contrasted to people who are just beginning.

The elitists don't want that kind of competition. They would destroy any clinic they can find doing this except the one that clones themselves. Why do you think there are so many alternative therapy cancer clinics in the US? ;^)

Why look on the dark side? Imagine the cloning a few hundred Ayn Rands, several dozen JS Bachs, a handful of Ben Franklins, a thousand Henry Fords...

These days swamped with super heroes and rebooted super heroes to watch, me dino does not care much for the Wolverine or the X-Men, but you're not the only one who has piqued my interest with a recommendation. .

Me dino checked out a cherry 2000 trailer and realized I saw that a long time ago.
I remember her shorting out on her back in a bunch of wet bubbles.

If one could actually have the clone be exactly like you, it wouldnt want to do the things that you dont want to do. That wouldnt do for me. I would want one who didnt have the presonality quirks (like procrastination, etc) that I have, and which could complement my strengths..

the movie "cherry 2000" was about a lifelike robot slave - not a bad idea. In the end the director opted for the male star to prefer melanie griffith (I would have taken the cherry 2000 !)

It's like a cake recipe. You follow the instructions and bake it all up and it still tastes like mush. It is a movie for critics full of character development and little action. If you want to see a movie with good character development, good action and a plot that grabs you, go see "Logan" It is 100 times superior to the sequel I can't even remember the title.

An android shouldn't turn into a science fiction movie and try to kill you.
Who says a clone can't develop a personality disorder? Or just hate normal humans?

You can skip the sequel. It tries to be so much like the first but the plot gets lost somewhere along the way. It almost put me to sleep.

yeah. the attractive thing would be an android that was pre programmed the way you want it, like the original idea of a slave

Unless its mind has been mentally manipulated perhaps with implanted memories, me dino would think a clone would want to be an independent person with equal citizenship.
He/ she/ it may even CHOSE to adopt a completely different philosophy/way of life/profession/even religious beliefs than the original human.

A clone is an attractive idea, until you accept that a true clone wouldnt want to do the things necessarily that you would want them to do. the movie 'cherry 2000" explores an android "creature" that waits on you. That would be a better alternative than a clone.

"Humans Next?" What, nobody thinks that they are not trying to clone humans already? China does not have the restrictions that prevent many other from trying. They do not need approval from the people, they can do what they want to do. And we will never know until they succeed, and then perhaps not even then.

Raising normal children is already freaking expensive enough. Been there done that.
Maybe raising clones would be handled by some oo-ee evil corporation or some special government agency.
Me dino is now thinking of a Nazi baby factory I once saw on some History Channel World War Two footage.
