I think they sell it to the country as a participant thing. So they say, come do this performance and make your country proud, show us off sort of thing. I think that's what they did in 2012 for the UK one. There were a lot of schools that were approached i think for all those kids in the bed/nurse/voldemort scene on that performance. I think I know someone who had a friend do some of the stuff around the tree for that performance. (this has been years so I can't recall details anymore on whose friend it was!).

I don't really remember ANY Olympic performances. I do remember watching the LA one on the TV when I was young, but i don't remember any "performances". Just torch and countries and stuff. I missed 1992 I think :)

Watching it has been very odd. There's a lot of strange things in this performance, not just those particular items! There is a slave ship and a robot man, and demon from the sea... but that's around the same part as the virus looking thing comes out on the field.
